Vitan Platinum Towers - a new residential development in the centre of Bucharest
->
More and more residential projects are set to start in Bucharest. Due to the congested road infrastructure of Bucharest, two elements are required for such projects to be sucessful: position and embedded services. The time will tell whether the architects got it right, but two such complexes are about to be built close to the heart of Bucharest, aiming to combine the confort with the convenience of the city.

A good example of such a project is the Vitan Platinum Towers - an appartment complex placed in one of the most sought-after areas of Bucharest, Vitan. The position is right for several reasons: firstly, the complex has a central location - about 1-2 miles away from the city centre. Secondly, the towers are close to Bucharest Mall (the first shopping mall built in Bucharest after the communist era; although many more of them were built since, it is still seen as a upper class place), Unirea Shopping Centre (one of the very few shopping centers in Bucharest from the communist era), Youth Park (Parcul Tineretului), and underground station. Summarising, the position seems ideal for those who want to be in the city centre. (you can see all the above on this map of the area).
In terms size, the project is a complex of four towers, including a total 300 apartments covering 30,000sqm. To begin with, you can find plenty of details from the Vitan Platinum Towers website (including a virtual tour of the towers). Do not expect much beyond the pictures, as the website does not include an English version. According to the information from the website, apart from the confort provided in inside the appartments, the towers will have a radio-controlled entrance and will embed a garden and several stores as part of the complex.
This project is the collaboration of Platinum Developments, a company owned by an US-israeli investment group, and Banca Romaneasca.

[…] The new developments – very few blocks of flats were built over the past 18 years in Romania. After a booming period for all types of construction during the Ceausescu era, the lack of coordination and investment led to a virtually dead period in terms of new developments. Another phase started over the past couple of years, with a large number of projects aimed at the upper class (see Monte Carol Palace or Orhideea Gardens). Whole areas were covered with villas around the large cities (see Corbeanca and Jilava near Bucharest), blocks with expensive fittings and close circuit facilities were built nearby lakes or parks in the centre of Bucharest - the Monte Carol Palace mentioned above. Time has now come for massive projects aimed at the middle class (with a family income around €800-1000/month), affordable, no-thrills flats; the Vitan Platinum Towers is only a drop in the ocean when compared to the current market needs, hundreds similar projects are likely to appear in the next few years aiming to rebalance the market.
