Buying land nearby touristic attractions in Romania, from Voronet to Bran Castle

If you want to buy a property in Romania far from the noise of the big cities, then you have a lot to choose from.  Romania has a lot to offer:  seaside  with beautiful sandy beaches, mountains with ski resorts, castles and fortresses full of history (Bran Castle, Peles Castle, Corvinesti Castle) or churches and monasteries unique in Europe (Voronet, Moldovita, Sucevita, all part of the UNESCO patrimony).

Voronet BlueFor example, the price of land for construction in the Voronet village, next to the Voronet monastery is currently sold for approximately €15/sqm.  The Voronet monastery, built in only 3 months in 1488, is best known for its famous Voronet Blue, similar to the Titian red or Veronese green, and it is one of the most famous monasteries in the Moldavia - or Moldova, in Romanian language - region of Romania (bear in mind that the Romanian Moldavia and the Republic of Moldavia are different).

Similar to Voronet, the Sucevita monastery, built between 1582 and 1584, is famous for its architecture and its wall paintings all across Europe.  In Sucevita village, close to Sucevita monastery, the price of land is approximately €15/sqm including water and electricity utilities.

Being nearby a monastery might not be on everybody’s list of priorities, but the above areas are very important tourist attractions for both Romanians and foreign visitors, counting each year tens of thousands of visitors. Further, the typical accommodation choices in the area are a handful of agro-tourism hostels.

Bran CastleIn Bran, close to Bran Castle - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bran_Castle , the prices vary between €15 and €50/sqm depending on their distance to the Castle or to the main road (DN73) as well as, characteristic for all land for sale in Romania, the size of the plot (larger plots are sold for smaller prices than the small ones).  In case you were wondering, the Bran Castle is associated with a less religious figure to say the least - Vlad the Impaler (yes, the one further associated with Bram Stoker’s Dracula).

As you can see, buying land in regions close to a castle or monastery is less expensive than buying land in Bucharest area on the outskirts in regions such as Otopeni or Baneasa (€150/sqm). At the moment the price seems to be quite low, but unavoidably will increase as Romania will become known to the rest of the Europe and more Europeans will be interested to buy properties and land in Romania. Therefore, if you are interested to live or to have a holiday house far away from the city (either for yourself or for rental) in a quiet area with wonderful views these areas are ideal. You will be close either to the angels or the demons :) and, should you further wish, there you can also find out more about the Romanian life at village and Romanian traditions.
